Just wanted to say to anyone out there who hasn't socialized their pet, DO IT!  Not only are you saving yourself from any possible embarr***ing moments or uncertainties, but you are also doing your four-legged friend good!  I enjoy taking my dogs out for walks because we usually meet up with people and their pets.  My dogs just love meeting new people and other dogs and it makes me feel good to know that they aren't going to go nuts or anything.  And, equally important, if you have a small dog and encounter a bigger one, don't pick up puppy!  You're instilling fear in him!  Let him get to know his possible new big friends.  I know of a guy who has a Mini Pinscher and he lets him walk and get to know other bigger dogs -- mine for instance!
