| Hi We have a pup that just turned 1 March 9th. The last couple monthes he has been quite a handful. The biggest problem is leaving him home alone. He doesn't get left that often, but when he is left alone he has started going crazy. He literally clawed holes in our landry room walls and pulled moulding off the wall from around the door and chewed them to itty bitty pieces. Is anyone else having these kinds of troubles?

| I never had problems like that with my dog, he does make a sad face when we leave but he goes back on the couch and sleeps until we come back. Are you saying that he hasn't done it before,,when he was a pup??This started just now? The only thing I can think of and what I was told about this issue if ever happened...is to leave you dog alone for half hour, and then come back, then for 1 hour...come back...2 hours...come back. Gradually untill you leave him alone for the desired time..like 8 hours a day. You can do 2 times a day to start. The only reason for doing that is to show your dog that if you leave you WILL come back. If that doesn't work out, try buying a crate, or confinding him to a certain space so he can't walk freely around the house. Good luck!

| Yes, it is just recently that he has become destructive and had this major issue with separation. He doesn't have free range of the house when we are out. We had the laundry room closed in so he had a place where we THOUGHT he wouldn't be able to destroy anything... but obviously he proved us wrong (if there is nothing else why not just eat the doors and walls?). we have lately been crating him when he's home alone, but i feel horrible leaving him for 8 hours in the crate when we can't take him to work. I know at puppy school they warned us that most dogs at the SPCA are 11-15 monthes old becasue then they are going through their "teens" and can often mis behave and they will appear to have lost all knowledge of all the training you have done to this point. He isn't as bad as they said it could be at his age, but i am definately noticing a difference though. I just have my fingers crossed that he grows out of it soon.
