We all know that dogs should be eating food that was made for them...but do they all???

I'll use Gizmo as example...this little dog has a mind of his own...doesn't wanna eat dry dog food...well he has to..it cleans his theeth, it has all necessary vitamines, proteins etc. What does he do with dry dog food...he goes on hunger strike!!!! I think it would last days if it wasn't for us...but you mix in some chicken, beef, veal...anything that humans eat..he licks the plate...

Now this was our mistake...and I admitt that. We allowed this to happen, if we didn't feel sorry for him when he is begging under the table...he would be eating dry food ONLY.

Anyway, Gizmo eats Eukanuba, adult, mixed with human food.

What about your dogs????What do they eat??? Are they fussy eaters????

Our pup is on Neutro.  And it really agrees with him, everyone comments on how nice and shiny his coat is.  We try to put a bit of cabbage in a couple times a week.

And about being a fussy eater? He's part black lab, so he'll eat everything and anything.  Sometimes I will give him something he doesn't like that much (like a piece of broccoli) and he will make a disgusted face while he chews it (you can almost hear him saying "Are you kidding me? You call this food?").  But he still eats it.

i guess cabage is supposed to be good for his oral health (a breeder told me that) as well as helping to clean out his system.  she also suggested pumpkin once a week, but we don't do that yet.

long story, but yesterday he swallowed a live fish.  didn't even chew.  i wasn't joking when he said he would eat anything.  he followed it up with some water and elk feces....(we were in the woods)

Live fish???? OMG!!!!

Did you manage to get it out????

So do you cook the cabage first or you give it to him fresh????

just raw cabbage.

haha I laughed at the idea of getting the fish out of Zeus.  Once he eats something, there is no getting it out!  He was sure to wash it down with some water after he ate it.  I'm sure it didn't live for very long (lack of oxygen etc.) It was only about 12cm long.

I just had to shrug my shoulders and laugh.  My dog is part lab, I might as well get used to it.  If it can fit in his mouth , he will probably eat it (I stopped taking him to the pet food store with me when he figured out cat toys were yummy).

Hi, I have two dogs -- hence my name -- twomutts.  My dogs are fed a natural diet -- commonly known as BARF (bones and raw food or biologically appropriate raw food).  Their dinner consists of ground up chickens (carc***es, necks, everything), many different types of vegetables pulverized in my food processor, some flax seed oil, other vitamins, etc.  Some of you may have heard about this type of diet and believe me, I will never switch back to kibble.  It's pretty scary when you actually read what is put in kibble.  Anyway, for anyone that is interested in learning more about BARF, send me a message or if you're adventurous, go surfing.  It's a pretty daunting task at first when you get started but the real reward is watching how my dogs gobble it up.  I have a German Shepherd/Rotti cross and an Alaskan Malamute/Lab cross -- you don't have to have a big dog to feed such a diet though!

Hi I was wondering if the cabbage would give the dog gas too. I don't think I like that.

We had that problem with our dog too - once you give them a treat, they go on hunger strike.  What we did (since I REFUSE to cook a meal for the 90 pound dog!) is that we gradually weaned him off.  Worked like a charm.

Another thing that works is to change the flavour of the dog food he's eating - For example, we went from one type of Nutrience dog food to another, and he thought it was the GREATEST thing!  You have to gradually introduce it though... just like any other food.

As well, we changed the kibble size to a smaller size.  We were having problems with him eating *enough* kibble. I think he just got bored chewing on the big pieces (gient breed kibble) so we switched him to medium breed sized kibble and that works great since he gets more at a time.  He's put on 10 pounds since the summer!

Don't forget!  You're the boss!

Question
Bouvier des Flandres crossed with a Royal Poodle =?
a) a cute furball who loves to swim and chase squirrels
b) a BouPoo ! (Don't tell him I call him that!)
c) a smart but HUGE dog (think horse)
d) KNOWS he's an equal member of the family (god help us...)
e) All of the above.

My two small dogs eat PC Nutrition 1st Chicken & Rice dry dog food, which has chicken, chicken meal, then brewers rice listed first.  I chose this brand as I was told the first three ingredients make up most of the contents.  My dogs get pieces of roast beef or chicken as treats along with raw celery, carrots and lettuce.  I was also wondering about the cabbage?  I would like to know more about it before I feed it to my dogs.  Thanks
