Hey everyone, I'm new here and I hope maybe this will help me figure some things out about my new puppy Elvis. He's a 12 week old border collie German shepherd cross.

First off, he wakes me up numerous times a night to go outside, and then he wakes up at 7 am, and does not go back to sleep, regardless of whether or not he's in his crate. Is there anything I can do about this?

Secondly, I FINALLY got him to learn how to walk on a leash, until a few days ago he'd plant his bum on the ground and not move. Now that I've got him walking, I need to know how to get him to actually do his business, he's been going in the backyard and I think he's become to used to that. It's to the point of where we'll go on a half an hour walk, he'll do nothing, then as soon as I take him home he does his thing in the backyard.

I've only had full grown dogs up until now and I'm completely clueless when it comes to puppies, HELP!!

In terms of going to the bathroom, just keep in mind that a 12 week puppy cannot hold his bladder more than 3 hours. Just be thankful that he is actually walking you up rather than going in your house. As your puppy gets older she will stop needing to go over night.

In terms of doing her business when you go for a walk, basically don't play with your dog until he goes, the best time for this is after she eats and drinks. After you can praise her so she will learn that going outside is a good thing.
