Begin by placing the puppy in the crate and keep the door open and sit by the crate until the puppy calms down. Do this several times a day. You can then do this for longer periods of time. Then you can do this for longer periods but with the door of the crate closed.

Once you feel that the puppy is comfortable in the crate, you can keep him in there in then leave the room for a few minutes at a time. This way you teach your pup that the crate is a safe place and then when you are leaving him there you are coming back. Keep increasing the time you leave him in there and you should be fine.

With crate training, it is a slow process but it pays off in the long run.

RE: Help with Crate Training

5.5 weeks old seems a little young. You may run into some seperation issues there. My mom and me had a siberian huskey when I was a child and she wasn't much for the crate either. She knew how to open it by the time she was 4 months old and she would rip everything apart. All in all she was an excellent dog, beautiful and loyal. She just had bounds of ENERGY! Good luck with her!

Help with Crate Training

Hello, I'm new here. I've recently gotten a Siberian Husky and he's only 5.5 weeks old. We live in a condo and we're trying to crate train him but he's being very fussy.
He will go into his crate willingly, but when the door is closed and locked, he will scream bloody murder! His crying usually lasts about 5-10 minutes but since he's a puppy he needs to go eliminate every hour, and it's back to square one.

Can anyone give me some pointers?
Thanks!
